Standard Job Hazard Analysis (JHA)
The Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) is a critical tool for identifying potential risks before work begins. In SafetyHQ, this process is digitized to ensure thoroughness and accountability. Whether you call it a JHA, JSA, or pre-task plan, the goal is the same: assess, plan, and proceed safely.
1. Getting Started
Navigate to Forms
Log in to SafetyHQ and click on the Forms module in the main menu.
Select & Create
Use the dropdown menu at the top center to find Job Site Hazard Assessment (or your company's equivalent). Then, click the yellow + Create New button.
2. Project Information
The first page captures the "When" and "Where".
- Date/Time: Ensure this reflects the actual time of the assessment.
- Project: Select the job from the dropdown list. If integrated with Foundation, this list is automatically updated. Selecting a project will auto-populate the Project Number and Location.
- Conditions: Fill out weather and temperature fields if present to document environmental factors.
3. Tasks & Hazards
The Tasks
Select the specific work activities being performed (e.g., "Excavation," "Roofing").
Tip: Use the Other option to manually type in tasks that aren't listed in the standard options.
The Hazards
Identify risks associated with those tasks. OSHA looks for thought and interaction hereādon't just auto-click.
Example: Checking "Environmental" might reveal sub-options like "Heat Stress" or "High Noise."
4. Controls
Smart Controls
This section is smart. It only shows controls for the hazards you selected in the previous step. For example, if you selected "Hand Tool Injury" as a hazard, you might see controls like "Inspect tools before use" or "PPE Required: Gloves."
5. Finalizing the Report
Key Personnel (Notifications)
Some forms allow you to select "Key Personnel" to notify. If you select a Project Manager here, they will receive an alert that this JHA has been submitted.
Photos & Documents
Use the File/Photo Upload to attach pictures of the site conditions or safety setups. This is excellent evidence of compliance.
Signatures
Overseer: The foreman signs here.
Attendees: Select crew members from the dropdown list. If you have third-party contractors, use the "Guest" signature box if available.
Submit
Click Submit to finish. The form is saved to the "Entries" tab where you can view it, download a PDF, or run compliance reports.
